Femke Bol began her 2025 individual season with a commanding win in the 400m hurdles at the Diamond League meet in Rabat, clocking 52.46 seconds — the second-fastest time this year behind Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. This marked her 25th consecutive Diamond League victory in the event since 2020.
Bol, who hadn’t raced individually since September and only competed in relays during the European Indoor Championships, finished well ahead of Jamaica's Andrenette Knight, who placed second. Speaking after the race, Bol expressed satisfaction with her return to competition, highlighting the smooth execution of her race strategy.
The men’s sprints delivered mixed outcomes, with South African Akani Simbine continuing his perfect season by winning the 100m in 9.95 seconds. Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala and American Fred Kerley followed closely in second and third, respectively.
Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo had a disappointing evening, finishing last in the 100m with 10.43 seconds and skipping the 200m altogether. That event was instead won by American Courtney Lindsey in 20.04 seconds. While Tebogo opted out of doubling, Kerley took on both sprints, collecting two third-place finishes.
Elsewhere on the track, Kenya's Beatrice Chebet stole the spotlight by setting a new African record in the 3000m, clocking an astonishing 8:11.56, the second-fastest time in history. Chebet, already a dominant figure in long-distance running, stated that she is now aiming for the world record set by Wang Junxia in 1993. In the women’s 100m, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson overcame a slow start to take her first win of the season in 11.04 seconds.
Tshepiso Masalela of Botswana continued his fine form by winning the men’s 800m in 1:42.70, while Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali concluded the night with a tight victory in the 3000m steeplechase, holding off Germany’s Frederik Ruppert in 8:00.70.
