Favour Ashe eyes Accra glory after Gaborone resurgence

Posted : 06 May 2026

After weathering a storm of criticism, Nigerian sprint star Favour Ashe is now channeling renewed confidence into a bold pursuit of gold at the upcoming CAA Senior Athletics Championships in Accra.

The 100m specialist arrives in Ghana on the back of a statement performance at the World Athletics Relays Championship in Gaborone, where he played a crucial role in securing Nigeria’s qualification for the World Athletics Championships.

The team’s success also guaranteed a spot at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship.

With the continental championships set to begin on May 12, Ashe is not shying away from expectations. Instead, he is embracing them.

“I’m focused and ready. The goal is clear: gold in the 100m and gold in the relays,” he stated, underlining his intent to lead Nigeria’s charge at the championships expected to feature over 1,000 athletes from across Africa.

Gaborone proved to be more than just a competition; it was a turning point. Coming into the event under scrutiny from fans and stakeholders, Ashe responded in emphatic fashion, silencing doubters with his performance on the track.

“There was a lot of talk before the championships, but I stayed locked in,” he reflected. “I’m grateful to God for how everything turned out.”

Rather than being weighed down by criticism, Ashe revealed it became a driving force, pushing both him and his teammates to rise to the occasion when it mattered most.

Now, with confidence restored and momentum firmly on his side, the Nigerian sprinter heads into Accra with a mission: to transform resurgence into dominance and reaffirm his place among Africa’s elite.

Ashe's determination to succeed in Ghana highlights his growth as an athlete capable of handling high-pressure environments. By setting sights on multiple gold medals, he aims to cement Nigeria's reputation as a powerhouse in African sprinting. This upcoming championship serves as the perfect platform for him to turn his recent momentum into lasting continental success.
