Ethiopia dominates as Lama, Bitwe claim Okpekpe 10km Road Race titles

Ethiopian athletes once again stamped their authority on long-distance running as Mama Lama and Silenet Bitwe emerged champions of the 11th edition of the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race held on Saturday in Edo State.

Lama delivered a brilliant performance in the men's elite race, overcoming a highly competitive field to cross the finish line first and secure one of Africa's most coveted road-running titles. His victory added another chapter to Ethiopia's rich legacy in international distance running.

In the women's category, Bitwe produced an equally impressive display of endurance and tactical brilliance to claim top honours, ensuring a memorable double triumph for Ethiopia at the prestigious event.

The race, renowned as Africa's first World Athletics-labelled road race, attracted elite athletes from across the continent and beyond, all competing for glory on the demanding Okpekpe course.
