Nigeria’s Esther Kolawole has claimed gold in the 62kg category at the Grand Prix of Spain, following a dominant 10-0 superiority win over Haylie Jaffe of the USA in the final.
The highly spirited African champion approached the final with great confidence, having already secured an emphatic 10-0 win over Lydia Perez Tourino of Spain in the quarter-finals and a solid 4-1 victory against Poland’s Alicja Nowosad in the semi-finals.
This gold medal marks a significant milestone in Esther Kolawole’s career, underscoring her immense talent, self-belief, and growing stature in the world of women’s wrestling.
Reacting to her victory, President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Hon. Daniel Igali, applauded Kolawole’s exceptional performance on behalf of the federation’s board. He expressed confidence that the experience will further shape her for future international competitions.
“I am very satisfied with her incredible outing,” Igali stated. “If she continues on this trajectory, Nigerians should expect many more gold medals from her in the future.”
Following her impressive showing in Spain, Esther Kolawole will shift her focus to the upcoming Ranking Series in Budapest, Hungary, scheduled for July 14–19, 2025, as part of her preparations for the World Wrestling Championships in Croatia later this year.
