The second Enugu City International Marathon is attracting growing corporate interest ahead of its August 29 race day, with six major brands already confirmed as official partners. The event, organised by Nilayo Sports Management with the backing of the Enugu State Government, is increasingly developing into a major platform for athletics, business, tourism and community engagement.
Aquafina Premium Drinking Water, Pinnacle Oil & Gas, African Pits and Quarries, Power Oil, Afia TV and Radio, and Enugu Air are among the companies supporting the 2026 edition. Their roles cover hydration, energy, infrastructure, wellness, media and transportation, reflecting the expanding commercial reach of the marathon.
The five-day Marathon Expo will run from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28 at Michael Okpara Square. It will serve as the official race-kit collection centre while also providing space for sponsors, exhibitors, athletes, fitness enthusiasts and visitors to interact ahead of race day.
Organisers have designed the Expo as more than a collection point. It will feature product showcases, health and wellness activities, business networking opportunities and cultural attractions, creating a festival atmosphere around the marathon. The Expo will open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The corporate partnerships are also expected to improve the experience for athletes and spectators. Aquafina will provide hydration support along the 42km route, while Pinnacle Oil & Gas will support logistics and fan engagement, with APQ contributing to route preparation and event production.
Power Oil will focus on wellness and healthy-living activities, while Afia TV and Radio will provide media coverage before and during the event. Enugu Air, meanwhile, will support travel arrangements for elite athletes, officials, invited guests and sports tourists.
The marathon is expected to attract more than 3,000 athletes, including elite runners, grassroots competitors and recreational participants from Nigeria and beyond. Organisers are also positioning the event as a tool for sports tourism, talent development and economic growth in Enugu.
The 42km Elite Marathon will start at 6:30 a.m. from ShopRite on Abakaliki Road and finish at Michael Okpara Square. The 10km race is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. from Chris Tee Investment Limited on the CIC Road and will also finish at the square.
A World Press Conference is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, when organisers are expected to provide final information on race logistics, security and prize details. With corporate backing expanding and the Expo set to open on Monday, Enugu is preparing for a marathon week that will combine athletics with commerce, wellness, tourism and entertainment.
