South African sprinter Sinesipho Dambile maintained his impressive run of form on the Diamond League circuit by securing second place in the men’s 200m at the Oslo meeting in Norway on Wednesday.
Dambile crossed the finish line in 20.12 seconds, finishing behind Botswana’s Olympic champion, Letsile Tebogo, who claimed victory in a time of 19.84 seconds. The result marked Dambile’s third podium appearance of the 2026 Diamond League season, following a third-place finish in Rabat and another runner-up result in Stockholm.
Despite another strong performance, Dambile believes there is still room for improvement. He said he entered the race feeling confident after a series of encouraging performances and plans to review his run to identify areas where he can gain further speed. The South African also took satisfaction from finishing ahead of several high-profile competitors.
The only other South African athlete competing in Oslo was middle-distance runner Tshepo Tshite, who participated in the men’s 5,000m event. Tshite finished 16th but achieved a personal best time of 13:20.92, improving his mark over the distance.
The race was won by Ethiopian athlete Addisu Yihune, who produced a winning time of 12:47.62.
Athletics South Africa acting president John Mathane praised Dambile’s consistency and focus, highlighting the sprinter’s ability to deliver strong performances against elite international competition. He credited the athlete, his coaches, and support team for maintaining high standards throughout the season and expressed confidence as Dambile prepares for upcoming events.
Attention now turns to the next Diamond League meeting, which will take place in Doha on June 19, as athletes continue their preparations for the major championships later in the year.
