CJ Ujah returns to Great Britain's relay squad for World Athletics Relays

Posted : 12 April 2024

Sprinter CJ Ujah returns to Great Britain's 4x100m relay squad for the upcoming World Athletics Relays, marking his first inclusion since serving a 22-month doping ban. Ujah, who tested positive for banned substances during the Tokyo Olympics, resulting in the team's silver medal being revoked, has been cleared of intentional doping, earning him a place in the squad alongside teammate Richard Kilty.

The World Athletics Relays, slated for 4-5 May in the Bahamas, hold significant importance as the qualifying event for the relay competitions at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Despite challenges and controversies surrounding some squad members, such as Reece Prescod's departure from the relay team before last year's world championships in Budapest, British Athletics remains optimistic about the team's prospects.

Darren Campbell, the head of sprints and relays for British Athletics, acknowledges the hurdles faced by the relay squad in recent years but emphasizes their collective motivation, commitment, and focus on achieving success together. With the relay team poised to navigate through challenges and strive for excellence, their participation in the World Athletics Relays represents a crucial step towards their Olympic aspirations in Paris.
