Cacisile Sosibo Takes SPAR Grand Prix Lead After Consistent Tshwane Performance

Cacisile Sosibo has moved to the top of the 2026 SPAR Grand Prix standings after another consistent showing in the SPAR Women’s 10km Challenge in Tshwane.

The Boxer athlete has yet to win a race this season, but fifth-place finishes in Cape Town followed by fourth-place results in Durban and Tshwane, combineaxd with maximum bonus points each time, have lifted her to 80 points.

Tayla Kavanagh sits second on 60 points after winning the Cape Town and Durban races, although she missed the Tshwane event while representing South Africa at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Defending champion Glenrose Xaba is third with 59 points after finishing runner-up in Cape Town and winning in Tshwane, while Ethiopia's Selam Gebre and Kyla Jacobs are close behind on 58 and 56 points respectively.

The battle for the overall title remains wide open, with the remaining races in Gqeberha and Johannesburg likely to determine the champion.

Kavanagh's preference to avoid competing at altitude could also become significant, particularly if the points remain close heading into the final race in Johannesburg. The official series schedule lists Gqeberha for September 26 and Johannesburg for October 4.

The junior standings are similarly competitive, with Chanel Groenewald leading on 11 points after three races. Mpho Katiso is one point behind, while Taya Pelser and Leah Edwards have five points apiece, meaning the championship remains undecided in the younger category as well.
