BFN invites 24 players in camp for African Championships

The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) announced on Wednesday that a total of 24 players are currently in camp, preparing for the All Africa Men’s and Women’s Team Championships 2024 in Egypt, scheduled for February 12th to 15th.


The badminton players have been training at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja for the past month in anticipation of the championship.


The team comprises 12 men, 12 women, and four coaches under the supervision of head coach Suleiman Tajudeen.


Among the men players in camp are African number 1, Anuoluwapo Opeyori; Mutual Benefits silver medallist, Victor Ikechukwu, as well as men’s doubles silver medallist at the 5th Mutual Benefits, Emmanuel Joseph.


Former African number 1 women’s player, Dorcas Adesokan, makes a return to the national team, and Mutual Benefits silver medallist, Deborah Uke, along with 3rd Ikoyi Classics silver medallist, Sofiat Obanisola, have been invited to camp.


Head coach Suleiman Tajudeen believes the athletes can make the country proud at the All Africa Men’s & Women’s Team Championships 2024.


He stated, “Our level of preparation is very high. As I have said before, the athletes have been in camp since January, and the best will be selected.


“I am proud of the athletes; their conditioning, training, and other aspects are top-notch. I am sure they will be ready to not only bring back gold medals but also make the country proud.”
