Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary: Ajayi Offers Cash Rewards for Top Eight 100m Finishers

Posted : 29 September 2026

Nigeria’s 100m national record holder Ajayi Kayinsola is set to add a personal touch to the Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary Meet by providing cash prizes for the top eight finishers in the men’s blue-riband event.

The gesture will form part of the Ajayi Kayinsola 100m Showdown, which will be held at the Yabatech Sports Complex, Lagos, on November 7, 2026.

Beyond the financial reward, the event will mark a significant return to a venue closely associated with Ajayi’s development as a sprinter.

Yabatech was one of the tracks where Ajayi began making his mark as a young athlete, recording some of his fastest times during the formative stages of his career.

The Nigerian sprint star recently returned to the venue for the unveiling of the event and announced his decision to support athletes competing in the 100m race.

Athletic Heat CEO Ese Oguma described the decision to name the event after Ajayi as a fitting recognition of the sprinter’s achievements and his connection with the venue.

“I’m very happy to have Ajayi Kayinsola named after this event. I didn’t see anyone else who could fit this title, not just because he is the national record holder, but also because of his connection to this track,” Oguma said.

Oguma recalled that both he and Ajayi trained under Coach David Sule/Arena Academy at the same venue, making the sprinter’s involvement in the anniversary meet particularly significant.

He also praised Ajayi’s decision to provide rewards for the top eight finishers, describing it as a welcome development for athletes.

“I would also like to say a big thank you for his donation, as there hasn’t been any competition in Nigeria in recent years where the Top 8 are awarded. So it’s a great development and a boost for the athletes,” he added.

The initiative comes in a notable year for Ajayi, whose performances have further strengthened his position among Nigeria’s leading sprint athletes.

His journey from developing his speed on the Yabatech track to becoming Nigeria’s national 100m record holder provides a strong link between the athlete and Athletic Heat’s decade-long celebration.

The anniversary meet is expected to bring together some of the country’s leading athletes while providing opportunities for emerging competitors to test themselves on the same stage.

Athletic Heat is expected to unveil additional event tributes and activities as preparations continue for the 10th Anniversary Meet.

The event is scheduled for November 7, 2026, at the Yabatech Sports Complex in Lagos.
