Amusan Sets Meet Record to Win Gold in New Taipei 100m Hurdles

Posted : 08 June 2026

Nigeria’s premier sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan, produced another outstanding performance on Saturday, setting a new meet record on her way to winning gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open.

The Nigerian star crossed the finish line in a superb 12.72 seconds to establish a new competition record, despite running into a slight headwind of -0.3m/s.

Amusan delivered a dominant display from start to finish, leaving the rest of the field well behind and further strengthening her status as one of the world’s leading hurdlers.

Bo Ya Zhang of Chinese Taipei, representing the host nation, claimed the silver medal in 13.17 seconds, finishing comfortably behind the Nigerian athlete, who controlled the race with authority.

The victory marks another significant milestone in Amusan’s 2026 season as she continues to build momentum ahead of major international championships later in the year.

The 28-year-old once again showcased her trademark speed, composure, and technical precision over the hurdles, qualities that have made her one of Nigeria’s most successful and recognisable athletes on the global stage.

With her confidence rising and performances improving steadily, Amusan’s latest triumph in New Taipei sends a strong warning to her rivals as she targets more podium finishes on the international athletics circuit in the months ahead.
