Amusan Sends Strong Warning to Rivals with Record-Breaking Rabat Triumph

Posted : 01 June 2026

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan delivered another emphatic statement of her return to top form, storming to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco.

The reigning African record holder and former world champion clocked a brilliant 12.28 seconds, equalling her season’s best and setting a new meet record in the process.

Racing with confidence and precision, Amusan took control of the contest from the start and never looked threatened as she crossed the finish line ahead of a quality field.

Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton finished second in 12.40 seconds, while Dutch athlete Nadine Visser secured third place with a time of 12.47 seconds.

The impressive performance marks another significant step in Amusan’s resurgence following a difficult 2024 campaign.

The Nigerian star has looked increasingly sharp throughout the 2026 season, showing encouraging signs in the opening Diamond League meetings in China before producing her best display yet in Rabat.

Her latest success adds to the gold medal she recently won at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Senior Championships in Accra, Ghana, where she once again demonstrated her dominance on the continental stage.

With consecutive victories and consistent performances against world-class opposition, Amusan appears to be building momentum at exactly the right time.

The 12.28-second run not only reinforces her credentials as one of the world's leading sprint hurdlers but also signals her readiness to challenge for major honours in the months ahead.

As the international athletics season gathers pace, Amusan's return to peak form will be welcomed by Nigerian athletics fans, who will be hoping the track queen can add more titles to her growing collection and further strengthen her legacy among the sport’s elite.

This remarkable triumph in Morocco solidifies her position as a major force to be reckoned with on the international track circuit this season. With her confidence fully restored and a new meet record under her belt, the African champion looks perfectly poised to maintain this elite momentum. Fans can certainly expect more spectacular, record-chasing performances from the sprint hurdler in her upcoming global outings.
