Amusan hits season-best as Diamond League race heats up

Posted : 18 May 2026

Nigeria’s leading sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan, delivered her fastest performance of the season after finishing third in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Diamond League meeting.

The Nigerian star crossed the line in 12.41 seconds, a season’s best that signals a steady return to top form ahead of a busy international athletics calendar.

American hurdler Masai Russell stole the spotlight with a commanding victory, posting 12.25 seconds to set a new meet record and the fastest time recorded globally this season.

Second place went to Bahamian athlete Devynne Charlton, who clocked 12.38 seconds to establish a new national record for the Bahamas.

Despite finishing behind Russell and Charlton, Amusan’s performance remains a major positive for Team Nigeria, with the former world record holder continuing to build momentum after a difficult spell in recent seasons.

The outing represents Amusan’s quickest run of the 2026 outdoor campaign and reinforces her status as one of the top contenders in women’s sprint hurdling.

With major global competitions approaching, the Nigerian track queen appears to be regaining rhythm and confidence at the right time.

This impressive performance in the Diamond League highlights her readiness to challenge the world's best on the international circuit. As the athletics season intensifies, the Nigerian camp remains highly optimistic about her prospects for further podium success. Amusan's steady progression bodes well for her upcoming competitive fixtures on the global stage.
