Amusan Battles Injury, Secures Third Straight Commonwealth Games Medal for Nigeria

Nigeria's world record holder in the women's 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, showed remarkable resilience on Friday by overcoming injury to claim a bronze medal at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 29-year-old clocked 12.60 seconds to finish third in the final, extending her impressive Commonwealth Games record with a third consecutive podium finish after winning gold at the previous two editions.

Amusan disclosed after the race that she had been battling a knee injury sustained during Team Nigeria's training camp in Aberdeen, casting doubt over her readiness for the competition.

"I had a pretty bad fall at training camp, so I've been a bit concerned about my knee coming into this meet," she said. "But I'm just thankful I was able to hold it together and get on the podium once again."

Despite the injury, the Nigerian sprint hurdles star chose to compete, demonstrating the determination that has defined her illustrious career.

She also revealed that the chilly weather in Glasgow posed an additional challenge, particularly because of her medical condition.

"It was a little cold out there. I'm anemic, so I try to stay warm every opportunity I get. I did my best to make sure I kept myself warm before the race," she said.

Rather than dwell on her physical challenges, Amusan remained focused on delivering her best performance.

"The last time I felt something, I just focused on preparing for the race instead of trying to make excuses," she added.

Although she narrowly missed out on a third consecutive Commonwealth Games title, the bronze medal underscored her resilience and commitment to representing Nigeria despite competing below full fitness.

Amusan said her immediate attention would now shift to rehabilitation before making plans for the remainder of the athletics season.

"Honestly, with what I'm dealing with right now, I just want to go and get treatment, and then we'll see what happens next," she said.

Her latest podium finish further cements her legacy as one of Nigeria's most accomplished athletes, adding another Commonwealth Games medal to an already distinguished career.

With another medal secured under difficult circumstances, Amusan once again demonstrated the determination and consistency that have made her one of Nigeria's greatest track stars, while providing further inspiration for Team Nigeria's campaign in Glasgow.
