Ajayi Storms to London Diamond League 100m Triumph Ahead of Commonwealth Games

Posted : 18 July 2026

Nigerian sprint sensation Kayinsola Ajayi produced another outstanding performance on Saturday by winning the men's 100 metres at the London Diamond League, further strengthening his credentials ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The 21-year-old stormed to victory in a time of 9.84 seconds at the London Stadium, equalling his season's best while finishing ahead of Jamaica's reigning world champion, Oblique Seville, who clocked 9.87 seconds. Great Britain's Romell Glave finished third in 9.97 seconds.

Ajayi, the reigning two-time NCAA champion, made a superb start that proved decisive as he maintained his advantage throughout the race to claim another Diamond League victory.

Reflecting on his performance, the Nigerian attributed his success to his explosive start.

"I just came out here and did what I had to do. I'm happy; I got the job done," Ajayi said.

"I got out of the blocks like 'Boom!' I knew that if I got my start right, everything else would take care of itself."

The victory comes at the perfect time for the Nigerian sprinter, who will now turn his focus to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, which begin on July 23. Ajayi is widely regarded as one of Team Nigeria's strongest medal prospects for the competition.

His consistent performances throughout the season continue to reinforce his reputation as one of the world's fastest emerging sprinters and a serious contender on the global athletics stage.
