A 13-year-old swimmer, Timilehin Olaiya, is inspiring over 90 young swimmers to thrill lovers of the sport in the 1st Age Grade Swimming Competition hosted at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The competition, managed by the Oyo State Aquatics Association in collaboration with some members of the Federal Aquatics Association team, provided a platform for budding swimmers to test their skills and push their limits in a supportive environment.

With over 90 enthusiastic participants, the pool was alive with energy as competitors dove into the water, vying for victory in various categories.

From freestyle sprints to butterfly, breaststroke, and backstroke races, each event was fiercely contested, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats throughout the two-day extravaganza.

For many of the young athletes, the competition served as a source of inspiration and motivation, fueling their passion for the sport and instilling a sense of camaraderie among peers.

As they splashed their way to the finish line, dreams of future championships and international accolades danced in their minds.

It was a great show that brought out the best from young swimmers from across western Nigeria and was powered by MTN, Flutterwave Nigeria, and Rite Foods.

The initiator of the event, Olaiya, said: "Our sponsors were wonderful; within a short period, they stood by us to make the event a success. I am happy with the attendance at the event, and we are certain the next edition will be even better."

The dignitaries at the event included World Aquatics listed starter Referee, Olujimi Adebawo, Vice Chairman of the Oyo State Aquatics Association, Risikat Ebeloku-Mustapha, and Deputy Director of Coaching at the Oyo State Sports Council, Olotu Adeyinka.

In some of the events, Olaiya won the 50m butterfly in the male 13 and 14 years category, while Osinaie Nissi won the female 13 and 14 years 50m backstroke event.
