"I really want to applaud our athletes for the remarkable performance they put up at the African Wrestling Championships in Morocco, and of course, such performance wouldn’t be possible without the support of the coaches. So, I want to appreciate Akuh Purity, our Cuban coach, and all the coaches at the state level," he stated.
"As a ministry, we are rewarding you with 200,000 naira each for gold, 100,000 for silver and bronze, and the same amount for the coaches," Igali said.
Honourable Daniel Igali also took the opportunity to thank the leadership of the National Sports Commission, led by Shehu Dikko and Bukola Olopade, for the support that helped the athletes perform exceptionally well.
Similarly, Honourable Igali praised the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for his consistent generosity in supporting the Wrestling Federation.
In his earlier address, the Director of the Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi, echoed the Commissioner’s praise for the wrestlers' performance, emphasizing that the victory is a testament to the massive sports investment by the state government under Governor Douye Diri and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Speaking on behalf of Team Nigeria, Hannah Reuben, who captained the contingent, expressed gratitude to the Bayelsa State Government, the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, CG Adeniyi, and other stakeholders who supported the team.
The highlight of the reception was the presentation of the women’s trophy to the Honourable Commissioner by the contingent.
