Abuja is preparing for yet another major sporting and tourism showcase as the 2026 PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon enters its final 13-day countdown ahead of the Nov. 14 race.
Organised by Nilayo Sports Management Limited, the event is expected to attract elite international athletes, recreational runners, fitness enthusiasts, corporate organisations and families to Nigeria's capital.
Beyond the competition for honours, the race is increasingly positioning itself as a platform for sports tourism, economic activity and the promotion of healthy living.
The organisers said the event had evolved beyond a conventional road race into a major sporting gathering capable of showcasing Abuja's hospitality, infrastructure and tourism potential to an international audience.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Yetunde Olopade, assured participants that the 2026 edition would build on previous successes while maintaining international standards.
"We are focused on athlete welfare, world-class logistics, medical support, security and a memorable experience for runners, volunteers, spectators and partners. This year's race will be bigger, better and more immersive for everyone," she said.
According to the organisers, preparations include improved route management, entertainment zones along the course, enhanced medical and security arrangements, as well as better facilities for spectators.
The competition is expected to generate increased patronage for hotels, restaurants, transport operators and other businesses, while providing opportunities for the city's hospitality and creative industries.
The race will also bring together participants with different sporting ambitions, from elite competitors seeking podium finishes and personal bests to recreational runners promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles.
Over the years, the Abuja City International Half Marathon has strengthened its reputation as one of Nigeria's prominent road-running events, attracting growing interest from athletes and sports enthusiasts.
The 2026 edition is expected to further strengthen that profile by combining competitive athletics with entertainment, community participation and tourism promotion.
With the Nov. 14 date approaching, organisers say the focus remains on delivering a safe, memorable and internationally competitive event that will showcase Abuja as a leading destination for major sporting activities.
As the countdown continues, the Federal Capital Territory is preparing to welcome runners and spectators for a celebration of athletics, fitness and the growing influence of sports tourism in Nigeria.
