Countdown to PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon

Posted : 23 November 2025

With just 14 days remaining until the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon, excitement is building across the Federal Capital Territory as Abuja prepares to host thousands of runners on December 6.

As final preparations are completed across technical, security, medical, and logistics operations, one question dominates the running community: Will Emmanuel Naibet and Ruth Jebet return to replicate their historic victories?

At the inaugural Abuja International Marathon in 2023, Kenyan star Emmanuel Naibet delivered a memorable performance, winning the men’s race in 2:13:45 — the fastest time ever recorded in a maiden marathon on Nigerian soil. Bahrain’s Ruth Jebet, competing in her first-ever full marathon, triumphed in 2:36:08 and later expressed her intention to return and defend her title in the city where she made her breakthrough.

As the countdown continues, Abuja is buzzing with anticipation. While this year’s event is a half marathon, fans and analysts are keen to see whether the two champions will participate and dominate once again. Naibet’s proven success on Nigerian terrain, coupled with Jebet’s explosive debut and promise to return, make them central figures in the lead-up to race day.

Organizers, Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), have confirmed that preparations are fully on track. Route checks, volunteer mobilization, timing systems, and athlete services are nearing completion, ensuring a smooth event.

This edition is expected to attract an even deeper and more competitive field of elite runners from across Africa, raising suspense about whether Naibet and Jebet can replicate their previous triumphs.

Abuja is ready. The runners are ready. The spectators are waiting.

With two weeks remaining, the key question lingers: If Naibet and Jebet return, can they do it again?
