Abuja City Half Marathon Returns on November 14 for Third Edition

Posted : 15 October 2026

The third edition of the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2026, in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. The 21-kilometer race is organized by Nilayo Sports Management Limited and is expected to attract local and international athletes.

Since its launch in 2024, the event has developed into a major road-running competition in Nigeria. It brings together elite long-distance runners, recreational participants, fitness groups, and corporate teams. The race also promotes healthy living and strengthens Abuja’s reputation as a destination for major sporting events.

Registration opened on Friday, September 18, 2026. Interested participants can register online or in person at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja. Organizers have encouraged runners to register early to allow sufficient time for training and preparation ahead of race day.

Nilayo Sports Management Limited continues to organize the competition in partnership with PremiumTrust Bank, the event’s sole sponsor. The partnership has supported the marathon’s growth since its inaugural edition in 2024 and remains central to preparations for this year’s race.

The company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Yetunde Olopade, expressed confidence that the 2026 edition would build on the achievements of previous races. She said the organizers were committed to meeting international standards through improved athlete services, logistics, medical support, security, and entertainment.

This year’s event will place additional emphasis on athlete welfare and route management. Organizers also plan to improve entertainment zones along the course and create a more engaging experience for spectators and families supporting the runners.

The race route will showcase some of Abuja’s notable landmarks and scenic areas. This is expected to give participants and spectators an opportunity to experience the city while celebrating athletics and community spirit.

The competition also offers Nigerian long-distance runners an opportunity to test themselves against international opposition. Such exposure can help local athletes assess their performance, improve their competitive experience, and prepare for continental and global championships.

Beyond the sporting contest, the marathon is expected to generate economic activity for local vendors, volunteers, hotels, and other businesses in Abuja. The event also promotes running as a regular fitness activity among young Nigerians.

The November 14 race is expected to bring together athletes, families, and supporters for a celebration of endurance, fitness, and unity. Organizers aim to build on the marathon’s growing profile while delivering a safe and professionally managed event.
