2nd NDG: Team Delta Sprint Sensation, Osama Wins 100m Gold

It was a blistering finish for Chibueze Osama of Team Delta to claim the 100m boys’ category gold medal at the ongoing 2nd Niger Delta Games.

The 2nd Niger Delta Games is ongoing at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

The gold medal claim handed Team Delta its 4th gold medal in athletics as the Onoriode Oborevwori-led contingent looks to surpass its second-place finish at the maiden edition in Uyo.

Also, Chibueze Osama cruised ahead of a packed field to clock a time of 10.41 seconds to claim gold, edging teammate Saturday Godswill, who clocked 10.43 seconds, and Gift Bright of Akwa Ibom, who clocked 10.82 seconds, to second and third place.

Team Delta then claimed another gold medal in the women's 100 metres event after upcoming sprint sensation Ejiro Peter swept past a packed field to claim gold.

The Ethiope West female sprint prodigy clocked a time of 11.55 seconds to beat Tejiri Ugoh Praise of Edo, who clocked 11.58 seconds, and Victory Imosiemoh Azobudi, also of Edo, who ran 11.59 seconds, to second and third place.

Team Delta picked another gold medal in the triple jump men's event as well as the men's shot put event to bring its tally in athletics to four gold medals.

Team Bayelsa has raced to the top of the medals table after picking three gold medals in the taekwondo event and two gold medals in the wrestling event.

Ejiro Peter and Chibueze Osama, in an interview, described their performances as a dint of hard work, dedication, and focus, which had been rewarded with the medals.

They both thanked their colleagues, coaches, and the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, for their support, while also thanking God for His grace.

The games continue tomorrow with several events scheduled for the Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia Stadium and the Crescent Sports Center, where football will again take centre stage.
