Abuja Half Marathon Targets Stronger Global Appeal as 2026 Edition Nears

The 2026 PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon is set to return to Nigeria’s capital on Nov. 7, with organisers targeting another strong turnout of local and international runners.

The third edition of the 21-kilometre road race, organised by Nilayo Sports Management Ltd., will combine competitive athletics with fitness, healthy living and sports tourism.

Registration for the race opens on Friday, Sept. 18, with participants able to register online or complete the process physically at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.

Organisers have urged prospective runners to secure their places early to allow adequate time for training and preparation ahead of the November race.

The event is being staged through the continued partnership between PremiumTrust Bank, the sole sponsor, and Nilayo Sports Management Ltd., with the collaboration helping to establish the race as a prominent fixture on Nigeria’s road-running calendar.

The 2026 edition is expected to attract elite athletes alongside recreational runners, fitness enthusiasts and corporate participants from Nigeria and other countries.

Organisers also plan to provide enhanced athlete services and race logistics, alongside medical support, security, entertainment and spectator engagement throughout the event.

Emmanuel Efe Efemienim, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PremiumTrust Bank, said the bank’s continued involvement reflected its commitment to sports development and nation-building.

Yetunde Olopade, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Ltd., said the organisers were working to further enhance the profile of the competition.

Olopade said preparations were focused on delivering an event that meets international standards while providing a quality experience for runners, volunteers, spectators and partners.

She also encouraged participants to register early and begin their preparations for the 21km challenge.

Beyond the race itself, the Abuja City International Half Marathon is expected to promote physical fitness, youth participation and sports tourism while creating opportunities for athletes and enthusiasts to engage with road running.

With registration opening on Sept. 18, attention now shifts to the runners who will line up in Abuja on Nov. 7 for the third edition of the international half marathon.
