The 162 Ondo State athletes for the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Ogun have resumed closed-camping.
The 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, tagged “Gateway Games,” will be held from May 16 to May 30.
The General Manager of the State Sports Council, Sunday Fagite, in an interview with newsmen, said the state’s athletes will build on their performance at the just-concluded Niger Delta Sports Festival held in Akwa Ibom.
Fagite disclosed that preparations for the festival were already in top gear, with the state athletes having resumed closed-camping since Saturday.
“Team Ondo will be motivated to surpass their performance in Uyo. By the grace of God, the target is to do better than we have in previous editions.
“The Niger Delta Sports Festival was also a big event, and our athletes will be able to rely on their experiences from there.
“Our coaches and athletes are on the field, preparing aggressively for the games.
“With the support of my management, I have no doubt in my mind that we will end the national event on a positive note because we are endowed with raw talent in Ondo and have capable coaches,” he said.
Ondo State finished 13th in the last edition of the games in Asaba, Delta.
