2025 NSF: Team Ondo stands tall in Abula

The Ondo State team in the traditional game of Abula has qualified for the finals in both the male and mixed doubles categories at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Ogun.


Team Ondo defeated the host state 3-1 to qualify for the finals, and also beat Team Imo by the same margin in the mixed doubles.


Olajide Ojo, coach of the Abula Ondo team, said after the games that he was happy with the players’ performance in both categories.


Ojo said it would be a source of joy and pride for the state to win its first gold medal in the game of Abula.


“In the first game, we lost to Rivers State. I told you it was a good game. So, we had to tweak our tactics, and here we are in the finals,” he said.


Ondo State will face Bayelsa in the men’s category and Delta in the mixed doubles final.


The festival, which started on May 16, will end on May 30 in Ogun State.
