Team Edo has increased their medal haul at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) with 2 gold and 2 bronze medals in wrestling as Bright Irobekhian (72kg) and Enienibodi (60kg) beat Delta, Bayelsa, and Jigawa to the top spots.
Perezilgha Obaze was also outstanding in the wrestling 92kg class, clinching gold to add to the medal tally.
The Heartbeat State’s para-athletics team also gave a good account of themselves with 6 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals to their credit.
Faith Obazuaye’s skills and ability made her unstoppable in the women’s singles event in para table tennis, smashing gold for Edo State as the Heartbeat State remained hopeful in other events at their finals.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director (Football Development) of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Baldwin Bazuaye, MON, has commended the Main Organising Committee (MOC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival for their efforts in organising a memorable event in Ogun State.
The ex-international football star described the standard of the Ogun Games as acceptable, emphasizing that the camping of athletes, feeding, and transportation logistics have been nearly perfect.
He specially commended the Ogun State government and Remo Stars proprietor Hon. Kunle Soname, whose infrastructure complements government efforts.
He acknowledged that food for athletes was never in short supply despite some complaints about bowel issues, which he said should be expected, noting that the human body system varies depending on the kind of food athletes are used to.
Hon. Bazuaye gave the commendation at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne during his routine tour.
"Ogun has done well. As far as I am concerned, they didn’t disappoint me in any way. The infrastructure on the ground is solid. Mini stadiums are scattered all over the state. Kunle Soname is also a blessing to Ogun and Nigeria for building sports in the country," he said.
