The Bauchi State contingent to the upcoming 2025 National Sports Festival (NSF) in Ogun has restated its readiness to win 32 medals at the end of the tournament.
The 160 athletes are determined to double the number of medals won in the previous NSF edition in Delta.
Mr. Salisu Garba, Director of Planning and Organising at the Bauchi State Sports Council, said this in Bauchi.
He expressed optimism that the athletes would win more medals for the state, given the high level of preparation, increased support, and a determined team spirit.
Garba said the state won 16 medals at the 2024 NSF and vowed to win 32 medals this year.
“We are fully prepared. Our goal is to double our achievements from Delta. This time around, we are going in stronger, more focused, and better equipped.
“The state is mobilising a formidable contingent of over 160 athletes, coaches, and officials, who are scheduled to depart for Ogun by Friday.
“So far, funds have been released for logistics and travel. Everything is on track. The level of commitment from both the government and the athletes has been commendable,” he said.
According to him, the athletes will participate in a series of games including able-bodied and para-sport disciplines.
He listed swimming, table tennis, badminton, taekwondo, karate, cycling, football, volleyball, basketball, powerlifting, shooting, tennis, canoeing, and chess, among others.
Garba emphasised that the athletes had undergone intensive training to enable them to compete with renewed zeal and discipline.
“We’re not just going for participation; we are going to compete and win. Our athletes are motivated and ready to make Bauchi proud.”
