Ohunene Yakubu Reaches J100 Accra Quarterfinals as Success Ogunjobi Exits

Posted : 07 October 2026

Nigeria’s Ohunene Yakubu has advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Tennis Tour Juniors J100 tournament in Accra, Ghana. The teenager is now the country’s only remaining representative in the singles competition after Success Ogunjobi was eliminated.

Yakubu, ranked 494th in the junior rankings, continued her impressive run at the tournament with another victory. Her progress has given Nigeria a strong opportunity to challenge for a place in the semifinals.

Ogunjobi, ranked 516th, was unable to join her compatriot in the last eight. She suffered a closely fought defeat on Tuesday after the match went to a deciding set.

The Accra tournament has therefore produced contrasting fortunes for Nigeria’s two representatives. Yakubu will now carry the country’s hopes into the quarterfinal stage as she targets another victory.

Her run also provides an opportunity to improve her position in the junior rankings. A strong performance against the remaining field could further boost her ranking and provide valuable experience on the international junior circuit.

For Ogunjobi, the deciding-set loss brings her singles campaign to an end. Despite the defeat, competing at a J100 event provides valuable exposure against players from different countries and adds to her experience at international junior level.

The J100 Accra tournament is part of the World Tennis Tour Juniors calendar, which gives young players opportunities to gain ranking points and compete against other developing talents.

Yakubu will now turn her attention to the quarterfinals, where she will attempt to extend Nigeria’s presence in the competition. Victory would take her into the final four and keep her hopes of challenging for the Accra title alive.
