Nigerian star Plumptre eager to compete in the Women's World Cup

Posted : 02 June 2023
Super Falcons' talented defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has expressed her admiration and satisfaction regarding her Women's Super League club's successful survival in the recently concluded season.

Additionally, she has set her sights on performing exceptionally well in the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, set to take place in Australia and New Zealand.

During the Women's World Cup, Nigeria's national team, the Super Falcons, will be facing formidable opponents such as Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.

The tournament is scheduled to be held from July 20 to August 20, 2023, and Plumptre aims to make a significant impact on the global stage.

The Foxes, Plumptre's club, concluded their season with a thrilling 1-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion last Saturday.

In an exclusive interview with LCFC TV, Plumptre candidly discussed the just-ended season and her aspirations for her home country, Nigeria.

Plumptre expressed high praise for her club's resilient performances throughout the season, acknowledging their relentless efforts to secure their position in the Women's Super League.

This remarkable achievement holds particular significance for Plumptre, as it marks the second time the defender has successfully avoided relegation.

Her admiration for the team's tenacity and determination is evident.

In contrast, the fortunes of the Leicester men's team were less favorable compared to their female counterparts.

Unfortunately, the men's team did not achieve the same level of success, which means that players like Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi may face the possibility of either playing in the Championship or seeking new clubs in the upcoming season.

Despite the contrasting outcomes for the men's and women's teams, Plumptre remains optimistic about her own future and is eager to contribute to Nigeria's national team in the forthcoming Women's World Cup.

She hopes to make a significant impact by showcasing her defensive skills and leading her team to success on the global stage.

As Plumptre's ambitions align with Nigeria's aspirations in the Women's World Cup, fans and supporters eagerly anticipate witnessing her remarkable abilities in action.

Her dedication, talent, and determination serve as a testament to the strength and potential of Nigerian football, fostering a sense of pride and anticipation for the nation as they compete against formidable opponents in the pursuit of victory and glory.
