Posted : 25 September 2023
Maddy Cusack, a Sheffield United women's team player, tragically passed away at the age of 27, and the police have confirmed that her death is not being treated as suspicious. The incident occurred at an address in Horsley, and Cusack was pronounced dead at the scene. A file is now being prepared for the coroner to investigate the circumstances further.

Before Sheffield United's Premier League match against Newcastle United, players, fans, and members of Maddy Cusack's family came together to pay tribute to her.

Cusack had achieved the milestone of being the first player to reach 100 appearances for the club's women's team the previous season.

A wreath was laid in the centre circle, and a minute's silence was observed before kick-off, with fans applauding in the eighth minute to honor Cusack's squad number.

Tributes extended beyond the club as well. Before an England vs. Scotland match at Sunderland's Stadium of Light, players from both sides wore black armbands, and a moment of silence was held to remember Maddy Cusack.

Sheffield United expressed their devastation at her passing, and the men's team manager, Paul Heckingbottom, highlighted her significant role within the club, emphasizing that she was "a big part of everything" at Sheffield United.

The loss of Maddy Cusack was felt deeply by the football community, with heartfelt tributes and gestures of remembrance showing the impact she had on the sport and the people around her.
