Manchester United seek to sign Donny van de Beek and Brandon Williams, prioritizing permanent deals

Posted : 21 August 2023
Manchester United's focus lies on signing a midfielder and a goalkeeper before the transfer deadline, although squad trimming is a prerequisite. Donny van de Beek and Brandon Williams were excluded from the recent defeat to Tottenham, as their futures hang in the balance. The club intends to secure permanent deals for the duo, prioritizing such moves over loans. Funds generated from these transfers will aid in further squad reinforcement under manager Erik ten Hag.

Eric Bailly, with a year remaining on his contract, is not training with the first team and can be acquired on a free transfer. Dean Henderson, the England goalkeeper, seeks regular Premier League playing time and could leave, likely on loan with a potential permanent deal next summer, contingent on United acquiring a replacement.

While teenage goalkeeper Radek Vítek appeared on the bench due to Harry Maguire's injury, he's not yet deemed ready for regular first-team action. Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest have shown interest in Henderson.

United's summer signings, including Mason Mount, André Onana, and Rasmus Højlund, have collectively exceeded £160 million ($204 million). Departures of players like Anthony Elanga, Fred, Alex Telles, Matej Kovar, and Zidane Iqbal have raised around £32 million. Any additional proceeds will be allocated towards securing a midfielder, with Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat reportedly among the potential targets.
