European club overtakes Stevenage in bid for Arsenal's Nigerian-born player

After adding Super Eagles striker Aaron Samuel Olanare to their ranks, Neftchi Baku is now engaged in advanced negotiations to secure the signing of Arsenal midfielder Tim Akinola, another Nigerian-born player.
The Azerbaijani club has successfully negotiated a transfer agreement with Arsenal for the 2022 Nigeria's Olympic National Team invitee.
Akinola's contract with Arsenal is set to expire soon, having joined the club in 2020 after leaving Huddersfield Town.
Though Arsenal is willing to let him go without a fee, they plan to include a sell-on clause in any potential deal.
Finalizing the deal involves a few remaining details between Akinola and Neftchi Baku, with personal terms being one of the key factors.
While several English Football League clubs, including League One's Stevenage, expressed interest, Akinola's priority was joining a European top-flight club.
Akinola's recent playing experience has been through loans, spending time at Dundee United in the latter half of 2021-2022 and the entire previous season at Chesterfield.
