2022/2023 NPFL Match Day 1: Short notice to commencement of league disservice to our team, says Kano Pillars Coach

The Technical Adviser of Kano Pillars, Abdu Maikaba  have claimed that the short notice given by the organisers of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) was partly responsible for the not-too-impressive of his team during the opening fixtures away to Sunshine Stars of Akure.

Coach Maikaba pointed out that they were taking unaware on the date of commencement of the league, leaving them with only four to five days notice which he believes some of the players are not fit enough to played this type of grade "A" match.

Abdu Maikaba however expressed appreciation they way his players played the game which he said they try their best and he is confident they would do better in the next match.

He also said he was satisfied with performances of his players particularly in the first half which they supposed to finished the game but all their efforts went in vain.

``We made some tactical changes to make the game better but doesn't yield any dividend.

``Its part of the game to win, draw or loss and for the loss, we thank God because its the beginning of the season and we are going to shift our focus to the next match,'' Coach Maikaba said.

Recall that Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure on Saturday defeated Kano Pillars Football Club 1-0 in the match day one of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).

The match played at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure, had Sunshine Stars scoring the first goal of the season by Oge Emmanuel in the 8th minute to put the home team ahead.

Sunshine Stars Head Coach, Edith Agoye,in a  post match interview described his side’s performencr   against  Pillars as  highly technical.

Agoye said Sunshine Stars showed that the team could measure up with any team in the league.

“We are very happy that we scored a very good goal against Pillars, we created so many  scoring chances, and our opponents were unable to have any clear chance against us,” he said.

Agoye said his team would go back to the training ground to improve on their goal scoring  ability.
