Day 5 Highlights: Women's wrestling takes center stage at World Championships

On the fifth day of the World Championships, women's wrestling took center stage with three Olympic weight classes and one non-Olympic weight class in action. The Olympic weight classes included 53kg, 62kg, and 68kg, while the non-Olympic weight class was 72kg. Here are the key highlights from the day's matches:
 
In the 53kg category, Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Vanesa Kaladzinskaya secured an impressive 9-2 victory over Stalvira Orshush, earning her a spot in the quarterfinals.
 
Amit Elor from the USA, the defending champion in the 72kg category, began her title defense with a commanding 7-0 win over Nesrin Bas, setting up an exciting quarterfinal clash with Japan's Miwa Morikawa, the 65kg champion from the previous year.
 
Jonna Malmgren of Sweden advanced to the 53kg semifinals by defeating Samantha Stewart from Canada with a score of 2-1. On another mat, Andreea Ana from Romania had a dominant 9-0 victory over Iulia Leorda (MDA) to secure a place in the semifinals against Maria Prevolaraki from Greece.
 
Lucia Yepez from Ecuador secured a place in the 53kg quarterfinals with a fall over Christianah Ogunsanya from Nigeria. Her next challenge would be Akari Fujinami from Japan.
 
Olympic silver medalist Qianyu Pang (CHN) faced an upset as Maria Prevolaraki (GRE), a bronze medalist from the previous year, scored a late 4-point takedown to win 8-4.
 
Akari Fujinami (JPN) cruised into the 53kg quarterfinals with a dominant 10-0 victory over Jeongbin Oh (KOR) in just 1 minute and 32 seconds. Her remarkable winning streak extended to 124 matches.
 
In the 62kg category, Orkhon Purevdorj from Mongolia secured a narrow 7-5 win over Jia Long from China in the 1/16 final. Purevdorj was an Asian silver medalist, while Long was the champion at 65kg in the Asian event.
 
Grace Bullen from Norway, a silver medalist at 59kg the previous year, secured a fall over Angelina Rodrigues from Cape Verde at 62kg.
 
Aisuluu Tynybekova (KGZ), aiming for her third world title at 62kg, had a thrilling match against Aleksandra Wolczynska (POL) and secured a win with a double-leg takedown followed by a fall.
 
Sakura Motoki (JPN), the 59kg champion from the previous year who moved up to the Olympic weight, secured a quick 10-0 win over Ariukhan Jumabaeva (UZB) in just 46 seconds at 62kg.
 
Odunayo Adekuoroye from Nigeria secured a fall over Tokyo bronze medalist Evelina Nikolova (BUL) in the 57kg repechage, earning her a chance to wrestle for bronze and an Olympic quota.
 
Adeline Gray (USA) secured a fall at the first-period buzzer in her 76kg repechage match against Yuanyuan Huang (CHN), earning her a place in the bronze-medal match and the Olympic quota.
 
In an unexpected upset, Irina Rincaci (MDA) was defeated by Buse Cavusoglu Tosun (TUR) at 68kg, who secured a fall after a half-nelson right to her back.
 
Ami Ishii (JPN) quickly dispatched Dieu Thuoug Lai (VIE) at 68kg with an ankle pick to the back, securing a fall in just 26 seconds.
 
Koumba Larroque (FRA) secured a fall against Zsuzsanna Molnar (SVK) at 68kg after getting a 4-point takedown.
 
Miwa Morikawa (JPN), the reigning world champion at 65kg, began her quest for a second world title, competing at 72kg, with a 3-0 win over Nurzat Nurtaeva (KGZ).
 
Dominique Parrish (USA), the 53kg champion from the previous year, was defeated by Asian silver medalist Antim (UWW) with a 3-2 score.
 
Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Qianyu Pang (CHN) secured a 2-1 win against Altyn Shagayeva (KAZ).
 
Iulia Leorda (MDA) secured a fall over Sandy Parra (COL) at 53kg.
 
Akari Fujinami (JPN) had a dominant 10-0 win in just 1 minute and 19 seconds against Tuba Demir (TUR) at 53kg.
 
The day featured three Olympic weight classes (53kg, 62kg, and 68kg) as well as the non-Olympic weight class of 72kg, with wrestlers striving to earn a spot for the Paris Olympics.
