Posted : 23 August 2023
On the Heldenplein of Knokke-Heist, the Renewi Tour riders were presented to the public on Tuesday evening. The picturesque backdrop of radiant sun and the North Sea set the stage for the event. Jasper Philipsen, who secured four stage wins and the green jersey in the Tour, aims to achieve more success in his home country. However, he faces tough competition from riders like Jordi Meeus, Arnaud De Lie, and Tim Merlier.
The field also includes other sprinting talents such as Dylan Groenewegen, Olav Kooij, and Arnaud Démare. Philipsen has ambitious dreams, expressing a desire for the final victory in the tour. He acknowledged the challenges posed by certain stages, particularly the time trial in Sluis, which isn't his strongest point. Nevertheless, he is determined to make the game hard in the Friday stage to contend for victory.
The competition for the overall victory is robust, with a notable list of contenders including Matej Mohoric, Kasper Asgreen, Yves Lampaert, Jasper Stuyven, and others. Thibau Nys of Lidl-Trek is eager to showcase his skills before his home crowd and draw motivation from the team's strong performance. Greg Van Avermaet, the outgoing and former Olympic champion, also remains a rider to watch. He has high expectations for the third stage, especially in Geraardsbergen, and aims to continue performing until his last race day, emphasizing the enduring motivation that drives cyclists.
